I’ve regularly longed for to have my own site with my photography. we am in the pledge stages of being the photographer though still operative upon apropos better. Might teenager it too. Anyway, is it most appropriate to wait for until i’m unequivocally unequivocally good-probably after college (2yrs left ) to begin a single or can i begin a single with my pledge seeking images? Will i be means to get ads upon there for profit? Thanks!!!
Also, is it overdone?

If it were me, I’d wait until you got a pretty strong collection of very high quality images to choose from. You want to put your best foot forward. You should probably think about something like flickr or photobucket or something like that, see what kind of traffic you can generate before you try to get advertising. If you don’t have a lot of recognition, you’re not going to get much traffic which is generally not going to win you large advertising budgets. Maybe when you can see that you’re getting a few hundred hits a day, start putting it all together. Then it might be worth it to a business to purchase an ad.
So before you go out and spend that money, and take the time to build a site of mediocre photos, generate interest the old fashioned way on free hosting sites that already have their advertising in order. I’d just hate to see you get that all going for nothing. Its too much work for no recognition.
I would start now. There are some good website makers like http://www.wix.com and http://www.weebly.com I LOVE photography and want to become a professional myself. Its a good idea to start a website so you can get yourself out there. Somebody could offer you a job because they saw your work and liked it. Its okay if its beginner work because you can always learn new things good luck and I hope your dreams come true!
No, don’t do it.
Of course you can get a website anytime you want. There are many so called template sites that are easy to build. I like the sites from Better Photo. You can set it up in many different ways. You will have your own domain name. Cost is aprx. $120 a year, depending on what extras you get.
Most people’s sites are continuous works in progress. Nothing you put on there is written in stone. You are free to remove / replace photos as tine goes on and your skill improves. My site has gone through many totally different purposes and designs since I started it several years ago.
You should not promote it though until you have what you consider some really good work on it.
Unless your name is Amazon or Yahoo or something of that status, you are NOT going to get advertisers to pay YOU to be on your website. A company is not going to pay money to be on some unknown, amateur, obscure website. Get real.

Jade,
There is no reason you can’t start now since you obviously have the desire. Don’t let anyone put you down or discourage you. That will only confuse you & make you question your abilities.
While you’re in college & have lots of intelligent friends your age around you, go ahead & ask for their input as well. If you want till after college you may have to get a job in a completely different field & lose your momentum.
You go girl!
Never wait for tomorrow. Do it today.
A website is a labor of love and I would not expect it to generate a profit. One suggestion is do not put up anything that is truly poor or horrible because that will ruin your reputation and will dissuade repeat visits. Good amateur efforts are cool but anything less is not worth your time or your visitors’ time.
depends on what you mean by "amateur-looking". If you mean they look like snapshots that anyone could have taken, then I would say don’t put up any pictures yet.
If by amateur you mean not professional but still good (or contest-worthy) then go ahead.
As far as getting ads, that will only happen if you have a lot of traffic on your website (otherwise why would companies pay for bandwidth?). And you will only get a lot of traffic if your pictures are good.
You can at least start with the layout and format of your site (that’s half the battle), then upload pictures as your technique improves (if it hasn’t already).
