hi i have one more question – see how this program has 3 areas? the left controls – the center picture – and then the right controls – all three of this areas showed up for me yesterday but now the right side control area is not showing… it just disappeared how do i get it back?

I saved the image as .png and then opened vegas pro and added a 2nd video track and it works now

You have to save it as an image format vegas recognises that also has an alpha. .png is your best option, or if you have trouble with that try .tif. I think there’s an option you need to use in Vegas to enable it, too.

Ironically, although I actually own a legal copy of Vegas pro on Windows, I haven’t used either in years since switching to Linux, so my memories a bit rusty. Anyway, hope this helps!

hi. i think i followed this video and did everything that it said correctly, but how do i import the file into sony vegas movie maker? it imports the file but when i view it there – nothing will show up

hey. have you ever used a photo mask? Would you be able to make a tutorial? I can’t find one. you know what I mean by photo mask. Like you google photo mask and they give you (usually) a black shape and you use it to make your picture that shape. I have no clue how to do it in gimp! this was very informative.

Glad it helped! There’s other ways too, like using the path tool to trace the edge and then selecting “Path to selection”. This method is fast and easy for new users to understand though, when used on images with a pretty clear difference between foreground and background.
